Cari and Matt McGee talk about the great city of Pasco, Washington and Franklin County!

Dino Rossi speaks at TRAC

At the risk of starting this blog post as if I was covering a sports event… a sell-out crowd of more than 450 people got together at TRAC today to hear Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi talk about his plans for the next four years as governor of Washington. He comes across as very humble and down-to-earth, a regular guy — like he was born over here on our side of the state. :-)

He shared and expanded on many of the ideas and topics you’ve probably heard about in his TV commercials: how to make Washington an “entrepreneurial state,” how he’ll fix the budget deficit that’s grown to $3+ billion under the current governor, and so forth. The crowd seemed very friendly and pro-Rossi, but I expected more clapping and cheering as he spoke. We might be too polite to interrupt like that.

One of the loudest clapping interruptions came when Rossi talked about wanting to eliminate the death tax:

I also took a few photos from my spot. Here they are:

The luncheon was hosted by the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce, which also invited Governor Chris Gregoire to come over and speak; the Chamber people said she had scheduling difficulties and couldn’t make it. The Chamber also shared the news that about 200 new members have signed up in the last week, and I think they said they now have 1,500 members overall … or it might’ve been “close to” 1,500 members.
