Pasco Still Considering Pool Options

October 9th, 2008 by Matt McGee | Posted in Pasco News

Despite the Pasco pool bond failure in August, the city has no choice but to continue exploring options to improve their three aging public pools.

The city council discussed several options at one of their meetings last month. Ideas on the table include:

  • Renovating Memorial Pool for $3.1 million. The city apparently has the money to pay for this now, without voter approval.
  • Closing the two smaller pools, Kurtzman and Richardson, to save money and focus on Memorial Pool. Operating three pools costs the city between $75,000-$80,000 per year.
  • Revisit the idea of working with Kennewick and Richland on a major aquatic center project that might cost in the neighborhood of $25 million.
  • Revisit the failed bond proposal, but do a better job informing citizens of the facts of the proposal.
